In short

A Korean glass skin facial is a multi-step treatment that deeply hydrates, gently resurfaces and brightens the skin for a clear, dewy, lit-from-within finish. At Skin Avenue we offer 6-step and 10-step versions, each tailored to your skin type and tone and suitable for every Fitzpatrick type.

What it is

What is glass skin, and what is a glass skin facial?

Glass skin is a Korean beauty ideal that describes skin so smooth, clear and hydrated it looks almost translucent, like a pane of glass. It is not about a heavy, matte layer of makeup. It is about the skin itself looking calm, even and reflective, with a soft dewy sheen that comes from a healthy, well-hydrated barrier rather than from shine or oil.

A glass skin facial is the in-clinic treatment designed to move your skin towards that look. It layers gentle cleansing, exfoliation, hydration and nourishing serums to refine texture and build a healthy moisture barrier. The result is a calm, even, luminous complexion rather than a tight, stripped or over-exfoliated one. The philosophy is Korean at its core, patient and barrier-first, working with your skin over a series of visits instead of forcing a single dramatic peel.

At Skin Avenue the glass skin facial is our signature and most-requested treatment. It suits people who feel their skin looks dull, tired, dry or uneven and who want a healthy glow they can maintain, without downtime and without the irritation that harsher, one-size treatments can cause.

The barrier-first idea behind the Korean method

Most skin that looks dull or rough is not damaged so much as depleted. When the outer skin barrier is dehydrated or compromised, light scatters off an uneven surface and the complexion reads as flat and tired. The Korean approach that guides this facial does the opposite of stripping. It focuses on repairing and reinforcing the barrier first, then layering in hydration and active ingredients so the skin holds moisture, reflects light evenly and looks luminous. Healthy barrier, even surface, soft glow. That is the whole logic.

This barrier-first thinking is also why the treatment is gentle enough to repeat and why it can be adapted across very different skin types. Rather than reaching for the most aggressive acid, your therapist chooses the level of exfoliation and the serums that your skin can comfortably tolerate on the day, then builds results across a course.

How the treatment works, step by step

The facial works by carrying out several small, complementary steps in the right order. Each one prepares the skin for the next, so hydration and actives can absorb properly instead of sitting on the surface.

The 10-step version, offered at our Osborne Park clinic, follows the same philosophy and adds further targeted serums, a second mask phase and additional booster steps for deeper hydration and brightening. Your therapist recommends the version that suits your skin on the day, so you are never paying for steps your skin does not need.

Individual results vary and are not guaranteed. A glass skin facial is a cosmetic treatment designed to support hydration, texture and radiance. It is not a medical procedure and does not cure skin conditions. Any specific ingredients used are selected for your skin at your assessment.

6-step & 10-step explained

Two versions, one barrier-first philosophy.

Our 6-step facial covers double cleansing, gentle exfoliation, extraction, a hydrating mask, serum infusion and a barrier-sealing moisturiser. It is the signature glass skin experience and suits most skin types looking for hydration and glow with no downtime. The 10-step facial, offered at our Osborne Park clinic, adds further targeted serums, a second mask phase and additional booster steps for deeper hydration and brightening. What it helps with

Concerns a glass skin facial can support.

A glass skin facial is a hydration and radiance treatment. For deeper structural concerns we may pair it with, or point you to, a more targeted option after your assessment.

The benefits

Why clients choose it.

Six reasons the glass skin facial is our most-requested treatment, framed honestly.

01

Deep hydration

Layered hydrating steps plump dehydrated, fine-lined skin so it looks fresher and feels comfortable, not tight.

02

A dewy glow

Smoother surface texture reflects light more evenly, for that lit-from-within look rather than surface shine.

03

Refined texture

Gentle exfoliation and extraction help skin feel softer and look clearer, with pores that appear more refined.

04

More even tone

Brightening serums are designed to support a more even, radiant tone over a course of treatments.

05

No downtime

You can return to your day straight after. Skin may look slightly flushed for a short while, then settles.

06

Tone-safe by design

Gentle, barrier-first protocols are chosen and adjusted for your Fitzpatrick type, fair to melanin-rich.

What to expect

Your glass skin facial visit.

A relaxed, unhurried appointment. Here is how it flows from arrival to aftercare.

01

Assess

We look at your skin and tone, talk through your goals and choose the 6-step or 10-step protocol that suits you.

02

Prep

Double cleanse, gentle exfoliation and any extraction, so your skin is clear and ready to absorb.

03

Treat

Hydrating mask, serum infusion and, in the 10-step, a second mask and booster serums layered in.

04

Seal & guide

Barrier-sealing moisturiser and SPF, plus simple aftercare so your glow lasts and builds over time.

Tailored for every skin tone

Safe and effective on melanin-rich skin.

Glass skin facials at Skin Avenue are designed to be safe and effective across all skin tones, including melanin-rich skin. We choose gentle, well-tolerated formulations and adjust intensity to your skin barrier, so you build glow over time without the irritation or post-inflammatory pigmentation that harsher treatments can trigger.

Because deeper skin tones can be more prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, our approach is deliberately conservative. We favour hydration and mild exfoliation over aggressive resurfacing, patch-test where appropriate, and always finish with sun protection. We are honest that no treatment is entirely risk-free, which is exactly why the protocol is personalised rather than one-size.

  • Gentle, well-tolerated formulations chosen for your tone
  • Conservative protocols to lower PIH risk on Fitzpatrick IV to VI
  • SPF and aftercare guidance every visit
  • A personalised skin assessment before we begin

Suitability

Am I a good candidate?

A guide only. Your assessment is the real answer, and we will always be honest if another treatment suits you better.

A glass skin facial may suit you if

  • Your skin looks dull, tired or lacklustre and you want a healthy glow
  • You feel dehydrated, tight or flaky and want lasting comfort
  • You want visibly smoother texture and more refined-looking pores
  • You are after a radiance boost before an event, with no downtime
  • You have deeper or melanin-rich skin and want a gentle, tone-safe option
  • You prefer to build results gradually rather than with an aggressive peel

We may suggest an alternative if

  • You have active, inflamed acne, where LED therapy or a tailored plan may come first
  • Your main goal is softening acne scarring, where skin needling is often better suited
  • You are chasing significant pigment change, where medical peels may be paired in
  • You have a skin condition, recent procedure, or are pregnant or breastfeeding, which we discuss at your assessment
  • You have known allergies or very reactive skin, so we can patch-test and adjust

Individual results vary and are not guaranteed. This information is general and is not a substitute for professional advice. Please tell us about any medical conditions, medications, allergies, or recent treatments at your assessment so we can plan safely.

Comparison is general guidance. The right choice depends on your skin, and many clients combine a glass skin facial with a supportive home routine. See our HydraFacial page for a full breakdown of that treatment.

Questions

Glass skin, answered.

What is glass skin? 01

Glass skin is a Korean beauty term for skin that looks so smooth, clear and hydrated it appears almost translucent, like glass. It describes a healthy, well-hydrated complexion with a soft, even, dewy sheen, rather than a matte or heavily made-up finish. The look comes from a strong moisture barrier and refined surface texture, not from oil or shine.

What is a glass skin facial? 02

It is a multi-step in-clinic facial designed to move your skin towards the glass skin look. It layers cleansing, gentle exfoliation, hydration and nourishing serums to refine texture and build a healthy barrier, for a clear, dewy, luminous finish. At Skin Avenue we offer 6-step and 10-step versions, each tailored to your skin type and tone.

How do you get Korean glass skin? 03

Glass skin comes from consistency, not a single treatment. In clinic, a course of glass skin facials builds hydration, refines texture and supports even tone over time. At home it is about a gentle, barrier-first routine: cleanse without stripping, hydrate in layers, use well-chosen actives and wear sun protection daily. We give you simple aftercare so your in-clinic results are supported between visits.

What is the difference between the 6-step and 10-step facial? 04

The 6-step facial covers double cleansing, gentle exfoliation, extraction, a hydrating mask, serum infusion and a barrier-sealing moisturiser, and is available at both clinics. The 10-step facial, offered at our Osborne Park clinic, adds further targeted serums, a second mask phase and additional booster steps for deeper hydration and brightening. Your therapist recommends the version that suits your skin on the day.

Which clinic offers the 10-step version? 05

The 10-step glass skin facial is offered at our Osborne Park clinic at 2/221 Main Street. The signature 6-step facial is available at both Osborne Park and West Leederville. If you are unsure which to book, call us on 0402 991 762 and we will help you choose.

Is a glass skin facial safe for darker or melanin-rich skin? 06

Yes, and it is one of the reasons clients choose us. Glass skin facials at Skin Avenue are designed to be safe and effective across all Fitzpatrick types, including melanin-rich skin. We choose gentle, well-tolerated formulations and adjust intensity to your barrier, using conservative protocols to reduce the risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation. No treatment is entirely risk-free, which is exactly why we personalise the protocol and finish with sun protection.

Is there any downtime? 07

No, there is typically no downtime. Your skin may look slightly flushed or feel a little warm immediately afterwards, and this usually settles within a short time. Most people return to their day, and many book a facial before an event precisely because there is no recovery period.

Does it hurt? 08

A glass skin facial is a gentle, relaxing treatment and is not designed to be painful. You may feel mild tingling during exfoliation or slight pressure during extraction, but most clients find the session calming. Tell your therapist if anything feels uncomfortable and the protocol is adjusted.

How long does the treatment take? 09

Allow around 60 to 90 minutes, depending on whether you have the 6-step or the more layered 10-step facial. We never rush the steps, because giving hydration and serums time to absorb is part of what makes the results.

How long do the results last? 10

You can often see a fresh, hydrated glow straight after your facial. The deeper, longer-lasting improvements in texture and tone build with a course of treatments and a supportive home routine. Because skin renews continuously, results are best maintained with regular facials rather than a single visit. Individual results vary and are not guaranteed.

How often should I have one? 11

For visible, lasting results many clients start with a course of sessions spaced a few weeks apart, then move to regular maintenance. Your therapist will suggest a realistic cadence for your skin and goals at your assessment, rather than a fixed template.

How is it different from a HydraFacial? 12

Both are hydrating, no-downtime facials, but they focus differently. A HydraFacial is a device-led, four-step treatment that is especially good at decongesting pores and giving an instant refresh. A glass skin facial is a layered, barrier-first Korean method focused on deep hydration, refined texture and a dewy, even glow built over a course. Many clients use both. See our HydraFacial page for detail.

Can I wear makeup afterwards? 13

We usually suggest letting your skin breathe for the rest of the day so the hydration and serums settle, and to keep enjoying that fresh, dewy finish. Sun protection is the one thing we do recommend applying. You can return to your normal makeup routine the next day.

Is it safe during pregnancy? 14

A gentle facial can often be adapted during pregnancy, but some ingredients are best avoided, so we ask that you let us know at booking and discuss it at your assessment. We will tailor a comfortable, suitable protocol or suggest waiting, depending on your circumstances.

How much does a glass skin facial cost in Perth? 15

Pricing depends on whether you choose a single 6-step facial, the 10-step version at Osborne Park, or a package. Please enquire or book an assessment for current pricing. We do not publish invented prices, and we will always confirm the cost with you before you go ahead.
