In short

HIFU HIPRO-V uses focused ultrasound to stimulate collagen at the SMAS layer, designed to lift and tighten skin without surgery or downtime. At Skin Avenue it targets the jawline, jowls, double chin and fine lines, and is suitable across all skin tones after a personalised assessment. Individual results vary and are not guaranteed.

What HIFU is

A non-surgical facelift alternative, powered by ultrasound.

HIFU stands for high-intensity focused ultrasound. It is a non-invasive treatment that uses sound energy, not needles, incisions or injectables, to firm and lift the skin from within. At Skin Avenue we use the HIPRO-V device, delivered by a trained therapist after a personalised skin assessment.

Rather than working only on the surface, HIFU sends focused ultrasound energy past the outer layers to a deeper support structure in the skin. The idea is simple. Warm that deeper layer in tiny, precise points and the body responds by making fresh collagen and elastin, the proteins that keep skin firm and springy. Over the following weeks that renewal is what gradually firms the jawline, softens jowls and sharpens the lower-face contour.

HIFU is best understood as a treatment for mild to moderate skin laxity. It can create a visible lift and a more defined contour for many clients, and it is a genuine option for people who want firming without the recovery, cost or permanence of surgery. It is not, and we will never present it as, a replacement for a surgical facelift. If your concern is significant sagging or excess skin, we will tell you honestly at your assessment and talk through what HIFU can and cannot do for you.

How HIFU HIPRO-V works

The HIPRO-V handpiece delivers ultrasound energy to precise depths beneath the skin, including the SMAS layer. SMAS stands for the superficial musculo-aponeurotic system, a firm sheet of connective tissue and muscle that a surgeon lifts and tightens during a facelift. HIFU cannot cut or reposition that layer the way surgery does. What it can do is deposit small, controlled points of thermal energy at that depth, which triggers a natural wound-healing and collagen-building response without breaking the surface of the skin.

Because the energy is focused, it passes through the upper skin harmlessly and concentrates only at the target depth. The device can also be set to shallower depths to address fine lines and skin texture, and deeper settings to work on structural firmness. Your therapist selects the depths and settings for your face, your concern and your skin, and adjusts throughout the session to keep you comfortable.

The result develops over time rather than all at once. New collagen takes weeks to form and mature, so most clients notice gradual firming and lifting across roughly eight to twelve weeks, with the fullest effect toward the end of that window. This gradual, build-your-own-collagen mechanism is exactly why HIFU looks natural. There is no sudden change and no frozen look, just a slow return of firmness. Individual results vary and are not guaranteed.

Honesty note. HIFU works with your body's own collagen response, so results depend on your age, skin quality, degree of laxity and lifestyle. It works best on mild to moderate laxity and is not a substitute for a surgical facelift. We will always give you a realistic picture at your assessment rather than an overpromise.
What HIFU can help

Where HIFU HIPRO-V
focuses.

HIFU is a contouring and firming treatment for the lower face and neck. It is used to help these concerns, each of which we assess in person first.

  • A soft or full double chin, by firming the skin under the chin
  • An undefined jawline, helping redefine the lower-face line
  • Mild jowls and early sagging along the lower cheeks
  • Loose or crepey skin on the neck and chest
  • Fine lines, crow's feet and smile lines, at shallower settings
  • Nasolabial folds around the nose and mouth
  • General skin laxity and loss of firmness from natural ageing
  • Brow heaviness, for a subtle lift to the upper face

If your main concern is deep static wrinkles, acne scarring or texture rather than firmness, another treatment may suit you better. Skin needling can target scarring and texture, and medical peels can address pigmentation and surface renewal. We often combine HIFU with these in a longer-term plan, and we will map that out at your assessment.

Why clients choose it

The case for HIFU.

Six reasons clients consider HIFU HIPRO-V when they want firmer skin without surgery.

01

No surgery

No incisions, no general anaesthetic and no stitches. HIFU works from outside the skin using focused ultrasound.

02

Little to no downtime

Most clients return to normal activities the same day. Any mild redness or tenderness usually settles quickly.

03

Natural, gradual result

Because it stimulates your own collagen, firming appears slowly over weeks rather than as a sudden change.

04

Targeted contouring

Energy is placed precisely along the jawline, chin and neck, so we can shape and define specific areas.

05

Tone-aware

HIFU does not rely on light absorbed by pigment, so it can be suitable across Fitzpatrick I to VI after assessment.

06

Often a single session

Many clients see a benefit from one treatment, with optional maintenance once or twice a year.

Individual results vary and are not guaranteed. HIFU is designed to firm and lift mild to moderate laxity and is not a replacement for surgery.
What to expect

Your HIFU visit,
step by step.

From your first assessment to the weeks after, here is how a HIFU HIPRO-V treatment typically unfolds at Skin Avenue.

01

Assessment

We assess your skin, tone and degree of laxity, discuss your goals and confirm HIFU is a suitable and realistic option for you.

02

Prep

Your skin is cleansed and a gel is applied. Your therapist maps the areas to treat and sets the depths for your concern.

03

Treatment

The handpiece delivers ultrasound in short passes. You may feel brief warmth or prickling. Most sessions take 45 to 60 minutes.

04

Aftercare

You leave with simple aftercare and daily SPF advice. Firming builds over 8 to 12 weeks and we review your progress.

During treatment the sensation is usually described as tolerable, with short bursts of heat deep under the skin as each line of energy is delivered. Comfort varies by area and by person, and the bonier areas near the jaw can feel more intense than the cheeks. Your therapist checks in throughout and adjusts the settings to keep you comfortable. Straight after, your skin may look slightly flushed and feel a little tender or tingly, similar to a mild workout for your face, and this typically settles within hours to a couple of days.

Am I a good candidate

Is HIFU right for you?

HIFU suits some concerns far better than others. Honest suitability is part of how we work.

HIFU may suit you if

  • You have mild to moderate skin laxity and want firming without surgery
  • You are bothered by an early double chin, softening jawline or mild jowls
  • You want a gradual, natural-looking result rather than a dramatic change
  • You prefer a treatment with little to no downtime
  • You are in generally good health and have realistic expectations
  • You want an option that can be assessed for any Fitzpatrick skin tone

HIFU may not be right if

  • You have significant sagging or excess skin, where surgery may be more appropriate
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding, which we discuss and assess individually
  • You have active infection, open wounds or inflamed acne in the treatment area
  • You have certain implants or metal in the area, a pacemaker or a relevant medical condition
  • You have a keloid or raised scarring tendency, which we review carefully first
  • You are seeking a permanent result, as HIFU firming is gradual and not permanent
This list is a guide, not a diagnosis. Your suitability, contraindications and any medical considerations are confirmed at your in-person assessment before any treatment goes ahead.
HIFU for melanin-rich skin

Firming that is tone-aware, by design.

Many light and laser-based skin treatments carry a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation on deeper skin tones, because they rely on energy absorbed by melanin. HIFU works differently. It uses focused ultrasound, which targets a depth rather than a colour, so it does not depend on your skin's pigment to work. That makes it one of the more tone-friendly firming options, and it can be assessed for Fitzpatrick types I to VI.

Tone-aware does not mean risk-free. On richer skin we still take a conservative approach, choose careful settings, watch for any reaction and reinforce daily SPF afterwards, because any heat-based treatment carries some pigmentation risk if pushed too hard. We would rather build your result gently and safely than chase a faster outcome. Individual results vary and are not guaranteed.

  • Ultrasound targets depth, not pigment
  • Conservative settings on Fitzpatrick IV to VI
  • Daily SPF as part of aftercare
  • Honest, personalised assessment first

HIFU vs surgery

HIFU or a surgical facelift?

HIFU is not a replacement for a surgical facelift. If your concern is advanced laxity, a specialist surgical opinion may serve you better, and we are happy to say so. HIFU is designed for people who want firming and contouring without going down the surgical route.

Questions

HIFU, answered.

How much does HIFU cost in Perth? 01

HIFU pricing depends on the areas treated and your plan, so we confirm it at your assessment rather than advertise a single figure. As a guide, cost scales with whether you treat one area, the lower face and jaw, or the full face and neck. Enquire or book an assessment for current pricing.

Does HIFU hurt? 02

Most clients describe HIFU as tolerable, with brief warm or prickling sensations deep under the skin as the energy is delivered. Comfort varies by area and individual, and bonier spots near the jaw can feel more intense. Your therapist adjusts the settings to keep you comfortable and checks in throughout the session.

How long do HIFU results last? 03

Because HIFU works by stimulating your own collagen, results develop gradually over roughly eight to twelve weeks. Many clients enjoy firmer, more contoured skin for around a year. Longevity depends on your skin, age and lifestyle, and a maintenance session once or twice a year can help extend it. Individual results vary and are not guaranteed.

Is HIFU a replacement for a facelift? 04

No, and we will never present it that way. HIFU is designed to firm and lift mild to moderate laxity without surgery. It can create a natural, subtle improvement in the jawline and lower face, but it does not remove excess skin or match the dramatic result of surgery. If your concern is advanced sagging, we will say so honestly at your assessment.

How many sessions will I need? 05

Many clients see a benefit from a single session, with results building over the following weeks. Some choose a maintenance treatment once or twice a year. The right plan depends on your skin, age and goals, which we discuss at your assessment.

When will I see results? 06

HIFU firming is gradual, not instant. New collagen takes time to form, so most clients notice their skin looking firmer and more defined across eight to twelve weeks, with the fullest effect toward the end of that window. Some feel an initial tightening sooner, though the meaningful change is the slow build.

Is there any downtime? 07

HIFU HIPRO-V has no required downtime, so most clients return to normal activities straight away. You may notice mild redness, tingling or slight tenderness for a short time after treatment, which usually settles within hours to a couple of days.

How is HIFU different from Ultherapy? 08

Both treatments use focused ultrasound to stimulate collagen for non-surgical lifting. They use different devices and protocols. At your assessment we explain the differences honestly and recommend the option best suited to your concern and skin, and we never overpromise a surgical-level result from a non-surgical treatment.

HIFU or RF, which is better for me? 09

Neither is simply better. HIFU reaches a deeper support layer and is well suited to lifting and jawline contour, while radiofrequency works shallower and is often chosen for overall tightening and texture. They are frequently described as complementary. We offer HIFU HIPRO-V and will tell you honestly whether it fits your concern.

Is HIFU safe for darker or melanin-rich skin? 10

HIFU uses ultrasound, which targets a depth rather than being absorbed by pigment, so it does not carry the same pigmentation risk as some light-based treatments and can be assessed across Fitzpatrick I to VI. Tone-aware is not risk-free, so on richer skin we use conservative settings and reinforce daily SPF. We assess every client individually first.

What areas can HIFU treat? 11

HIFU HIPRO-V is most often used on the jawline, jowls, double chin and neck, and at shallower settings it can soften fine lines, crow's feet, smile lines and nasolabial folds. It can also give a subtle lift to the brow. Your therapist maps the areas to your concern at your assessment.

Who should not have HIFU? 12

HIFU may not be suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, over active infection or inflamed acne, near certain implants or metal, or for people with a pacemaker or a raised-scarring tendency. This is a guide only. Your suitability and any medical considerations are confirmed at your in-person assessment before treatment.

Can I combine HIFU with other treatments? 13

Often, yes. HIFU firms and lifts, while treatments such as Dermapen 4 skin needling target scarring and texture and medical peels address pigmentation and surface renewal. Many clients build a longer-term plan that layers these treatments over time. We map any combination and its timing at your assessment.
