Acne and congestion happen when pores clog with oil and dead skin, sometimes with bacteria and inflammation on top. At Skin Avenue we treat them the Korean way, calming and decongesting rather than stripping, using HydraFacials, LED therapy, gentle peels and skin needling matched to your skin and tone.
Clear, honest information first, so the treatment makes sense.
Congestion is what happens when a pore becomes blocked with a mix of oil, or sebum, and dead skin cells. On the surface it can look like rough, bumpy texture, tiny closed bumps you can feel more than see, or the dotted look of blackheads across the nose, chin and forehead. It is extremely common, and it is not a sign that your skin is dirty.
Acne is congestion that has gone a step further. When a blocked pore traps oil and the skin reacts, bacteria can multiply and the area becomes inflamed. That is when you see red, raised spots, pustules, or the deeper, tender bumps that sit under the surface. Hormones, stress, some products, humidity and genetics can all feed into how often it flares and how stubborn it is.
Pores themselves cannot open and close like doors, and no treatment can shrink them permanently. What treatment can do is clear the congestion inside them, calm the inflammation around them and support the skin so pores look smaller and behave better over time. Understanding that difference is what keeps expectations realistic and results honest.
We often combine two or more of these, matched to your skin at a personalised assessment. Explore any treatment in full.

Controlled micro-channels that trigger collagen renewal to soften the acne scars, marks and enlarged-looking pores that breakouts can leave behind.
These notes are a general guide only and are not a substitute for a personalised assessment. Whether a treatment suits your skin depends on your individual skin, history and goals, confirmed in person. Individual results vary and are not guaranteed.
Acne-prone skin is often over-treated with harsh actives and aggressive scrubs that damage the barrier and can make oil and breakouts worse. Our Korean, barrier-first method works to clear pores while keeping the skin calm, protected and resilient.

On deeper skin tones, the lasting problem after a breakout is frequently not the spot itself but the dark mark it leaves behind, known as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Because there is more active pigment ready to respond, over-aggressive acne treatment can deepen these marks rather than clear them.
That is why we treat acne conservatively across Fitzpatrick I to VI, calming inflammation quickly, patch testing reactive treatments and easing intensity for darker skin. No treatment can promise zero risk of pigmentation, and we will always tell you honestly what suits your skin now.

There is no single best treatment, because it depends on your skin. As a guide, we often start with a HydraFacial to gently clear and decongest pores, and add a gentle peel to keep them clear over time. Your plan is set at a personalised assessment rather than guessed from a template.
They can support skin through breakouts, and LED therapy in particular is designed to help calm inflammation and target acne-related bacteria. We focus on settling the skin and reducing congestion. For moderate to severe or persistent acne, we may also suggest you see a GP or dermatologist alongside in-clinic care.
No treatment can permanently shrink pores, and we will never claim otherwise. What we can do is clear the oil and dead skin congesting them and calm the surrounding skin, which can make pores look smaller and less noticeable while your skin stays clearer.
Yes, with a tone-aware approach. On melanin-rich skin the main risk is a breakout leaving a dark mark, so we treat conservatively, calm inflammation quickly and patch test reactive treatments. You can read more on our melanin-rich skin page.
Once active acne has settled, skin needling can help soften the texture of acne scarring, and gentle resurfacing can fade marks over a series of sessions. Marks from pigmentation and true indented scars respond differently, so we set realistic expectations at your assessment.
Congestion and acne usually respond best to a short series rather than a one-off, because the skin renews in cycles. We will recommend a realistic number and spacing at your assessment, and review your progress as we go rather than promising a fixed result. We begin every new client with a personalised skin assessment, which you can book online or by calling 0402 991 762.
